Special Aerospace Services (SAS), a Boulder, Colorado-based consulting firm founded in 2006, has hired its first chief operating officer. Karri Palmetier previously worked for United Launch Alliance — one of SAS’s clients — as assistant general counsel. In her new role, she will oversee SAS’s finance, contracts, compliance and legal functions.

“I love the thought of working for a dynamic small business with highly experienced and dedicated employees” she said. “SAS supports a multitude of aviation and space customers with a full spectrum of rapid engineering and manufacturing solutions.”

Career Highlights: Palmatier was a member of the U.S. Air Force Judge Advocate General for nine years — a job, she said, that “gave me a solid foundation in understanding a customer’s needs as well as a strong ethical code.” Joining ULA, she said, strengthened her space knowledge. “I still get chills whenever I watch a launch.”

Education: University of Georgia School of Law and American University.

Personal: “To destress, I love to cook gourmet meals, hike, and spend time with my life partner [ULA vice president for advanced programs] George Sowers and my family.”
